Goldring Ethos Series Ethos Moving Coil Cartridge
Ethos is a truly high-end cartridge featuring a vital-shank, nude-diamond stylus. This polyhedral, line-contact profile was chosen because it has a very low tip-mass and a large contact area whilst being very narrow from front to back; even enabling the undistorted retrieval of ultrasonic frequencies in a recording. Featuring a hand-wound cross-shaped, soft-iron armature and married to a low resonance aircraft aluminium chassis.

Q What is the Goldring Ethos and how does it differ from the flagship Ethos SE?
It's a high-end moving coil cartridge featuring a vital-shank, nude-diamond stylus and a hand-wound cross-shaped soft-iron armature, individually precision-tuned by craftsmen. It sits just below the Ethos SE in Goldring's range, with slightly different output and compliance specs.
Q What stylus does it use?
A nude diamond stylus with a vital line-contact profile (factory replaceable), mounted on an aluminum alloy cantilever for low tip-mass and a large contact area.
Q What is its output voltage and recommended tracking force?
An output of 0.5 mV ± 1 dB at 1kHz, with a recommended tracking force of 1.5–2.0g (1.75g nominal).
Q How wide is its frequency response, and how well does it separate channels?
A frequency response of ±2dB from 35Hz–20kHz, extending to 10Hz–32kHz overall, with channel separation greater than 30dB at 1kHz.
Q What is its cartridge mass and compliance?
It weighs 7.7g, with a static compliance of 25 mm/N and a dynamic compliance of 15 mm/N — worth checking against your tonearm's effective mass for a well-matched resonance frequency.
